Good Reads

Things have been pretty quiet on the email list of the American Indian Library Association. So Janet Rice of the University of Wisconsin-Madison asked the members to list their top three American Indian novels, and compiled the results. The top 10 are:

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Sherman Alexie
Ceremony, Leslie Marmon Silko
The Grass Dancer, Susan Power
Reservation Blues, Sherman Alexie
Love Medicine, Louise Erdrich
The Round House, Louise Erdrich
If I Ever Get Out of Here, Eric Gainsworth
Winter in the Blood, James Welch
Fool's Crow, James Welch
Water Lily, Ella Deloria

and we have them all. Three got honorable mention:

Almanac of the Dead, Leslie Marmon Silko
Night Sky, Morning Star, Evelina Zuni Lucero
The Plague of Doves, Louise Erdrich

Evelina Lucero's book we do not have, and will work on getting a copy. Then there's a much longer list of titles which were mentioned less often. We have most but not all, and will put the titles we lack on the wish list...
